Haiku and You (well...me)

A screenshot of Haiku running in a VM

This evening I installed Haiku in a vm. I’ve had a fun few hours playing around with it.

I don’t know heaps about it, but love to play with weird little operating systems like this.

It doesn’t seem as wildly different from contemporary OS as something like Plan9. There are some things that it does differently. Mostly these things are ergonomic in nature — like the deskbar (little application launcher/file picker in the upper right).

I’m excited to keep exploring this OS — maybe try to do some dev. on it in the coming weeks, even?

For more info on it, check out part 1 of this currently in process review: Haiku Alpha 1: Rebirth of legend (Part 1 of 5: Startup and first look), on the blog Isometric Leaves, the place for BeOS and Haiku enthusiasts!”
